Blockchain is a crucial technology to the EU’s industrial leadership on the international level. Addressing this feat, BlockStand supports the increased participation of European experts in Blockchain and DLT (Distributed Ledger Technologies) standardisation activities.

Through the completion of its objectives, BlockStand will not only enable European leadership in global blockchain standardisation but will also ensure that internationally used blockchain standards reflect European values and needs. By coordinating experts’ input and reflecting industrial needs in blockchain standardisation activities, the project is an essential means to prop up Europe’s strategic autonomy.

The project aims to create an online blockchain community comprised of all stakeholders, that shall engage in continuous collaboration and exchange of ideas to bolster the European Union’s leadership in the field. BlockStand has three core objectives:

Support the implementation of the European Commission’s Rolling Plan for ICT Standardisation chapters on blockchain

Reinforce links with the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP) and the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI), at strategic, operational, technical, practical and educational levels

Support the participation of European experts in international and European Standards Developing Organisations, through a selection process whereby experts are funded for proposed contributions

BlockStand is led by a consortium of partners with extensive experience on blockchain standardisation, and is steered by an Executive Management Board (EMB) comprised of representatives from industry, public institutions, and academia alike.

BlockStand will regularly publish its own deliverables, including:
